An early morning fire that erupted on Wednesday at a residence in the 30000 block of Big Range Road displaced three adults, three children, and two dogs. Canyon Lake and Cal Fire firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 1:15 a.m.
The fire originated in the kitchen and spread to the attic, according to homeowner Kasidy Cabrera, who was asleep when the fire broke out. “No one was in the kitchen cooking,” Cabrera said.
“The cause of the appears to be accidental,” Canyon Lake Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse said.
Due to the extent of the damage, the residence was red-tagged, displacing the Cabrera family and a friend and child who were living with them. “We’re currently living with my mother and sleeping on the floor,” said Cabrera.
The Red Cross was called to render aid. “We’re thankful God was watching over and shielded us until we got out,” Cabrera said. “You never think it’s going to happen to you until it does.”
