The Murrieta Police Department, in collaboration with several other city and county emergency response agencies, hosted the “Every 15 Minutes Program” at Vista Murrieta High School on April 24.
This emotionally charged program simulated a fatal DUI traffic collision on campus, aiming to leave a lasting impression on students about the real-life consequences of impaired driving.
The program is designed to instill awareness in teenagers about the dangers of alcohol and drug use, promoting safe driving habits and encouraging responsible decision-making.
The mock scene included numerous police, fire, and ambulance personnel responding to the school with lights and sirens at 11:50 a.m. A helicopter from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department landed on the school grounds at 12:10 p.m. to airlift one of the “critically injured” student volunteer actors to a trauma center.
The program concludes with a mock “funeral” presented at the sophomore, junior, and senior student body assembly.
