EVMWD continues work on Canyon Lake Sewer Rehabilitation Project

Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) continues work on the Canyon Lake Sewer Rehabilitation Project to improve sewer capacity and reliability in the Canyon Lake community.

EVMWD’s contractor, Southwest Pipeline, will be relining sewer pipe in segments throughout the City of Canyon Lake over the next several weeks. Residents may notice intermittent odors while work is being performed. “These odors are no cause for alarm and will subside once the work is completed,” EVMWD said.

The sewer pipes in some of the areas of Canyon Lake are aging and portions of the sewer system need to be rehabilitated to ensure ongoing capacity and reliability. During an inspection, EVMWD identified several segments that are in need of repair.

The project, which started in 2021 and is anticipated to be completed in March 2022, includes rehabilitating approximately 3,300 linear feet of pipeline.

Some of the sewer mains go through the front and back yards of private properties because the sewer system in Canyon Lake was installed before the property lines were determined. Trenchless technology will be used to improve the existing pipe from the inside and minimize impacts to the property owners; however, some spot repairs may require digging on private properties.

Construction hours are 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. No water outages are anticipated. Residents may be asked to not flush toilets for six to eight hours during certain stages. Residents may notice increased truck and/or equipment traffic, noise, dust, vibrations, and sewer odors.

Work will be done in isolated sections of the sewer line. Resident access will remain available during the project. Construction traffic or detour signs will be set up, should roads be impacted.
