A 20-year resident of Canyon Lake, Alex Cook’s volunteer service began in 2003 when he formed the Campground Club with the purpose to raise money to help rebuild the campground.
Invested in the campground, Cook jumped at the chance to serve on the Campground Committee. The Campground Committee later merged with the Recreation Committee. Cook served on the Recreation Committee for eight years, five of which he served as the chairman. The primary responsibility of the committee is to advise and assist the POA on the enhancement, preservation, and related uses of designated recreational common areas within the community.
Cook’s volunteer service also includes serving two years on the POA’s Facilities Planning Committee, which is the monitoring committee for all common area facilities and roads. Committee responsibilities include building maintenance, long-range planning, master planning, capital projects, and continued facility management/maintenance.
Cook said his most rewarding volunteer work was serving as a Little League coach and on the league’s board for 10 years. Cook served as president, vice president, and in other positions.
Cook’s current volunteer work includes serving the community as a POA director. When a director of the board resigned on August 2, Cook was one of seven candidates who applied to fill the vacant seat. He was appointed to the board on August 22 and will serve out the remainder of the former director’s term, which ends in May 2023.
When not volunteering, Cook said he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, being on the water, and offroading.
