A Canyon Lake resident since 2015, Kathy Wood has been giving back to her community in quiet, consistent, and meaningful ways.
From 2021 through September 2024, Wood served as a dedicated volunteer at the Canyon Lake Library, where she handled a variety of responsibilities, including shelving books, checking in attendees for storytime sessions, capturing moments through photography, and offering hands-on support during special events.
In 2024, the Canyon Lake City Council recognized Wood, along with two other volunteers, as Citizen of the Month for her volunteer work at the library.
Wood also plays a key role in maintaining the five Little Free Libraries located throughout Canyon Lake—one of which she personally donated. Every two weeks, she ensures they are restocked with books, helping to keep the joy of reading accessible to the community.
Wood’s commitment to volunteerism extends well beyond the libraries. She has been an active supporter of the Family Matters Club and, for the past five years, an Associate Member of the Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild, where she greets and checks in attendees for its concerts.
Wood is a current member and the former purser of the Canyon Lake Yacht Club. She has contributed to the club’s tradition of collecting burgees (nautical flags) from other yacht clubs. Her dedication is such that she’s even brought burgees back from as far away as Norway, expanding the club’s international connections.
Wood is also a member of the Canyon Lake Car Club and recently volunteered for one of the club’s signature events: the annual Poker Run, where participants cruise through the community in classic cars, collecting cards at each stop.
Even during her personal time, Wood finds ways to care for her community. A daily walker, she makes it a point to pick up trash along her route, demonstrating that her service-minded spirit is truly a part of her everyday life.
Wood’s contributions and unwavering dedication make her a shining example of what it means to be an engaged and caring Canyon Lake resident.
