On September 24 at approximately 2 a.m., Canyon Lake and Cal Fire firefighters responded to a single-vehicle traffic accident on Canyon Lake Drive South near Continental Drive in the City of Canyon Lake.
While en route to the scene, the incident was upgraded to a traffic collision with entrapment, according to Canyon Lake Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse.
Upon arrival of Engine 1, firefighters found a single vehicle had crashed into a palm tree in the center divider. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pinned under the car, LaTendresse said. Canyon Lake firefighters lifted the vehicle with the “jaws of life” and freed the driver.
Advanced life support procedures were initiated. After several minutes, the patient was determined to be deceased. The identity of the adult male driver was not released.
Canyon Lake’s main gate was closed while the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigated the scene. There were at least eight deputies on the scene when Engine 1 cleared.
