The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station conducted a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Saturday, February 19, from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Collier Avenue and Riverside Drive.
Five individuals were arrested for driving under the influence, 10 were cited for not having a driver’s license, and three were cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license. Nine arrest warrants were served and 10 vehicles were towed. A total of 43 citations were issued, according to the Riverside Sheriff’s Department.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
