Canyon Lake Engine 1 and Lake Elsinore Engine 94 were dispatched to a structure fire on Monday at 10:04 p.m. in the 29000 block of Vacation Dr. in the City of Canyon Lake. A passerby notified the fire department and the occupants inside the residence.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and discovered flames and smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Three additional engines and a truck were requested. Quail Valley Engine 5, Lakeland Villiage Engine 11, Murrieta Engine 5, and Murrieta Truck 2 responded, according to Canyon Lake Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse.

The fire was contained within 15 minutes, Chief LaTendresse said. Crews remained on the scene for several hours for salvage, overhaul, and investigation.

It appears that the fire originated from a malfunctioning firebox, igniting insulation and wood in the attic, according to Chief LaTendresse.

The Red Cross was requested to assist four displaced occupants.

This is the second attic fire in the past three days in the City of Canyon Lake. On Sunday, Canyon Lake and multiple Cal Fire engines were dispatched to a structure fire shortly after 9 a.m. in the 29000 block of Smugglers Point. The fire was contained to the attic.
