Lake Elsinore turned 133 on Tuesday. The city was officially incorporated on April 20, 1988, following a vote of the people held on April 9, 1888. It became the 73rd city to be incorporated in California, just 38 years after California became a state. The city’s population in 1888 was approximately 1,000.
Originally part of San Diego County, Lake Elsinore would later become a part of the newly established Riverside County in 1893. Back then, Lake Elsinore served as a boomtown for many local industries including coal, gold, and clay mining.
The City of Lake Elsinore has come a long way in the last 133 years. Looking forward, the city strives to become the ultimate lake destination where residents can live, work, play, and build futures.
