Happy Camp boat fuel dock now on fall hours

To make fueling boats more convenient for residents, the POA operates a boat fuel dock at Happy Camp. The fuel dock is now on fall/winter hours. Fuel is available daily from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. to 3 p.m.

In an effort to protect the coves and waterways, it is important for boat owners to prevent pollution and avoid leaks or spills. Boats having leaky gaskets and filters or poor fueling practices cause many small releases or spills that add up over time. To help with prevention, the POA suggests the following:

  • Shut-off all engines during fueling
  • Use an absorbent pad or fuel collar to catch drips
  • Know the fuel capacity of the boat’s tank and do not top off
  • Maximum 90 percent full
  • Keep bilges dry and oil-free; avoid oily discharges
  • Use absorbent pads to clean-up releases or spills

Boat motors should also be tuned and bilges checked for oil leaks before launching any boat. An oil-absorbent roll in the bilge area will temporarily take care of any oil drips and can be used to catch any fuel before it spills into the water. The oil-absorbent pads and rolls should be readily available to clean up drips and spills.

Although Canyon Lake is for the private use of the members, the lake is still required to comply with all federal and state laws and regulations as this pertains to the strict water protections that are in place.
