Juan Miguel Caudillo, a 32-year-old homeless man who police say is currently on parole for assault with a deadly weapon, was arrested and booked into jail for carjacking, attempted kidnapping, brandishing a weapon, and violation of parole. Jail records show he is being held without bail.

On November 4 at about 10:30 p.m., Riverside police officers responded to a call of a fight at the McDonald’s located in the 10100 block of Magnolia Avenue. According to the Riverside Police Department, the investigation determined that Caudillo attempted to carjack a vehicle stopped in the McDonald’s drive-thru lane.

Police say Caudillo opened a passenger door then brandished a pipe and pocket knife while trying to pull a 10-year-old boy out of his seat. The boy’s older brother, who was also the driver, grabbed a tire iron and chased the suspect away to the shopping center parking lot across the street. Bystanders detain Caudillo until police could arrive.
