Illegal e-moto operation conducted in Temecula

Four electric motorcycles and pocket bikes were towed and stored, and 13 citations were issued for various e-bike and e-moto violations during an illegal e-moto enforcement operation in the City of Temecula.

Conducted by deputies from the Southwest Sheriff’s Station Metro and Community Outreach and Engagement team on September 18, the operation focused on the unlawful operation of electric motorcycles, as well as educating riders.

During the operation, multiple juveniles were contacted and educated about the restrictions on e-bike use. Juveniles and parents were read an admonishment advising the dangers associated with unlicensed drivers riding motorized bicycles and electric-powered motorcycles.

Authorities emphasized that electric bicycles with no pedals and a motor exceeding 750 watts are electric motorcycles and cannot be legally operated by an unlicensed driver on public thoroughfares. Additionally, some electric motorcycles are strictly manufactured for off-road use and lack mandated road safety equipment to drive on highways.
