Phoebe Sweet Barber, affectionately known as Phoebe, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at her home in Canyon Lake, California.
Born on July 10, 1932, in Schenectady, New York, Phoebe’s vibrant spirit and joyful presence touched many
throughout her 93 years of life.
Phoebe’s journey in education began with her pursuit of a master’s degree from Berkeley, which she later complemented with further studies at Fullerton Community College. She dedicated 40 years of her life as a secretary in the education sector, where she was not only an administrative anchor but also a nurturing presence for countless
students and educators alike.
A woman of many interests and talents, Phobe was an accomplished artist and model. Her creativity was matched by her passion for gardening, painting, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life, such as riding in her golf cart around the scenic vistas of Canyon Lake or spending time on the boat, basking in the sun and the company of her cherished ones.
An ardent supporter of the Los Angeles Dodgers, she shared her love for the game with friends and family, creating lasting memories with every home run and victory.
Phoebe’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of New Creations Church in Perris, California, she lived her beliefs through action, always ready to lend an ear, share a word of encouragement, or offer a prayer. Her faith-filled life was an inspiration to many, and her legacy of love and devotion to the Lord will continue to resonate within her community.
Family was the heart of Phoebe’s world. She leaves behind a loving brood, including her five children: Sheridan, Cameron, Landon, Leticia, and Elena Tinder. Her role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, and she took immense pride in her eight grandchildren: Gaelon, Tarin, Jeremy, Gabriel, Gracie, Nichole, Rocco, and Tatiana, as well as her adored four great-grandchildren.
The family gatherings were a testament to the warmth and love she fostered, filled with laughter, storytelling, and the occasional spirited debate during a Dodgers game.
Those who knew Phoebe would describe her as loving and friendly, with a faith that was as unwavering as it was infectious. Her radiant smile and open heart made her a friend to many, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
Phoebe Sweet Barber lived a life marked by love, service, and faith. Her legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and an unrelenting zest for life. She will be remembered not only for the lives she touched but for the joy and light she brought into the world.
As we say goodbye to Phoebe, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us in all our days.
A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, February 14, at 9 a.m. at the Evans-Brown Mortuary in Sun City.
