In the wake of the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and out of an abundance of caution, the Lake Elsinore Unified School District has rescheduled the June 1 commencement ceremonies for Valley Adult School, Ortega High School, and Keith McCarthy Academy due to a security concern.
“We are actively working with our law enforcement partners, Riverside Sheriff’s Department,” the district said. “Safety is our number one priority. We will heighten our school security throughout this situation.”
The district reminds all students that if they see something to say something. Reports can be made anonymously by calling 951-955-2400.
“The safety of everyone who is planning to attend the ceremony and the wider LEUSD community is at the heart of this difficult decision,” the district said.
Commencement ceremonies scheduled for June 2 at Temescal Canyon High School, Lakeside High School, and Elsinore High School are planned to continue as scheduled.
