As committee chair of this year’s Veterans Day event, I am writing to acknowledge the amazing committee members and donors who refused to let COVID-19 prevent Canyon Lake from honoring our great veterans.
Although we were required to change the structure of our event, the committee never complained and, instead, rose to the challenge to make this Veterans Day memorable. Those committee members were city staff members Ana Sauseda, Mike Borja, Tyler Ferrari, Co-Chair Mayor Jordan Ehrenkranz, and community members Erica Toney, Christina Taltoan, Carrie Pratt, Nancy Carroll, Donna Lovejoy, Joseph Calise, Larry Garland, Karen Doherty, Sonja Garibay, Bert Barbay, Debby Gagnon, Karen Bevans, Harry Larson, and Fran Tibbet.
It was great to see city staff of all departments out there at the parade start, interacting with our community, and along the parade route. I would also like to recognize Megan Horton, who created the gorgeous wreath at the Memorial Park, and our donors Jack Walmsley and Warrant Kelsey, who donated toward the yard flags, and David and Barbara Spraul, who donated towards the Warbirds flyover.
I would also like to thank our generous Towne Center businesses, who offered special discounts to our veterans all day long.
Finally, a shout out goes to the Canyon Lake Veterans and First-Responders Group, who coordinated the branch leaders for the golf cart parade, and to our Canyon Lake deputies and Station 60 firefighters who came to the parade start.
It was a beautiful thing to see how this community comes together, no matter what, on an important endeavor such as this. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
