Local gym manager arrested for embezzling $40,000 in membership related fees

A 9Round gym manager, 45-year-old Rick Calzada of Lake Elsinore, was arrested on Tuesday for embezzling approximately $40,000 in membership related fees from January of 2019 to April of 2020, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported.

In April of 2020, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was alerted of possible fraudulent activity at the Temescal Valley 9Round gym franchise by one of the gym managers.

On September 22, investigators from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station served a search warrant at a residence in the 1300 block of Park Way in the City of Lake Elsinore. Investigators located numerous items related to the embezzlement.

Calzada was arrested for embezzlement and other theft-related charges and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center, according to jail records. He is due to appear in court on November 10.
