Local teens invited to lifeguard tryouts

The California State Parks are looking to hire new guards and invite local teens to lifeguard tryouts on Saturday, April 23, at 10 a.m. at Moreno Beach at the Lake Perris State Recreation Area, 17801 Lake Perris Dr., Perris.

Lifeguards who make the cut will be paid to train in public safety first aid, CPR, AED, open water lifesaving techniques, aquatic search and rescue procedures. Lifeguard work is seasonal. The starting pay is $17.73.

Participants must be at least 16 years of age and be able to swim 1,000 yards in under 20 minutes and perform a continuous 200-yard run, 400-yard swim, and 200-yard run in 10 minutes.

Tryout participants should wear a swimsuit or triathlon suit (one-piece for females) and bring goggles.
