A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer, following reports of fires in the Menifee Countryside Marketplace and the Paloma Wash Walking Trail.
Menifee Police officers responded to reports of a fire near businesses in the Menifee Countryside Marketplace on Thursday at approximately 1:43 p.m. Shortly after, additional reports came in about a second fire along the nearby Paloma Wash Walking Trail.
According to the Menifee Police Department, reporting parties described the individual they witnessed leaving the Marketplace fire with a lighter in hand before the second fire began. Officers responding to the trail area located a person matching the description.
Following a brief struggle, 29-year-old Jorden Taykeion was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting a police officer, according to the Menifee Police Department. No officers were injured during the incident. “There is no threat to the community,” the Menifee Police Department said in a statement.
A Cal Fire fire investigator responded and took over the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. Anyone with additional information regarding the fires is asked to contact the CAL Fire Investigator at [email protected].
