A DUI Checkpoint conducted by the Menifee Police Department on Saturday, August 24, led to five arrests. The checkpoint was held from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. near the intersection of McCall Boulevard and Sun City Boulevard.
Officers screened 591 vehicles and made one arrest for DUI, one arrest for driving on a suspended license for DUI, one arrest for a felony warrant, and two arrests for other criminal charges. Additionally, six drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license.
The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The Menifee Police Department will be holding another DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on a date to be determined.
