Menifee invites community to honor tradition at Dia de los Muertos celebration

The City of Menifee invites the community to celebrate the sights, sounds, and traditions of Día de los Muertos on Saturday, October 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mt. Jacinto College, 28237 La Piedra Rd. Admission and parking are free.

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased loved ones through food, drinks, and celebration. This event offers the community an opportunity to honor, explore, and discover the rich history and cultural significance of this tradition.

Día de los Muertos features a variety of activities, including food and artisan vendors, live performances, community altars, activities for kids, Familia Gonzales Car Club displays, and interactive experiences for all ages. Additionally, attendees can participate in a Catrina contest, a tradition where women and girls wear fine dresses and hats and paint their faces to look like sugar skulls.

Community members can honor their loved ones by displaying a traditional Día de los Muertos altar at this year’s celebration. Family altars often feature photos of those who have passed, vibrant marigolds, favorite foods or personal keepsakes, candles, and meaningful offerings that celebrate their lives and preserve cherished traditions.
