Out of respect for the El Monte Police Department and their memorial service to honor fallen police officers Michael Paredes and Joseph Santana, the City of Menifee moved its previously scheduled Police Chief Swearing-In Ceremony from June 30 to Wednesday, June 29, at 2 p.m. at City Hall, 29844 Haun Rd.

Following a national search, the City of Menifee announced Edward Varso III as the next chief of police. Vaso is the current chief of police for the City of Escondido. This announcement follows the previously announced retirement of the department’s founding chief, Pat Walsh.

Varso will assume his new duties on Tuesday, July 5.

“As a resident of Menifee, I have watched the formation and growth of the Menifee Police Department and am humbled to become a part of the agency’s next chapter,” Varso said. “I look forward to working with the department’s personnel, city leadership, and community members to maintain a safe and collaborative environment for law enforcement success.”
