Menifee Police Department responds to school shooting threat

The Menifee Police Department responded to a school shooting threat on Friday.

At about 8 a.m., the Menifee Police Department was notified about a social media comment that indicated a potential school shooting threat at Ethan A. Chase Middle School. To ensure the safety of its students and staff, the school initiated a secure and hold.

Officers and school staff worked to deem the campus was safe and began investigating. The hold and secure was lifted and normal school operations resumed throughout the afternoon.

At this time, detectives have no reason to believe that the threat was credible; however, the investigation is still ongoing to identify the source.

The Menifee Police Department encourages parents to have conversations with their children about the severity of these types of threats and the importance of being responsible when using social media. “Threats in our community will not be tolerated,” the department said.
