Menifee Police Department responds to social media threat at middle school

Ethan A. Chase Middle School initiated a shelter-in-place hold on Monday morning due to a concerning social media post indicating a potential school shooting threat.

The Menifee Police Department was notified about the social media post around 9 a.m., prompting the school to take precautions by initiating a shelter-in-place hold to ensure the safety of its students and staff.

Within hours, officers were able to identify a former student believed to be responsible for the online threat and found the male juvenile no longer resides in the city, the Menifee Police Department said in a news release.

An investigation determined the threat was not credible and the school was not in any imminent danger. The local law enforcement agency where the juvenile currently resides, his current school, and his parents were notified, the department said.

The juvenile’s identity was not released.
