Menifee Police Department to have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers violating state’s hands-free cell phone law

On November 24, the Menifee Police Department will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers who are violating the state’s hands-free cell phone law. Violators are subject to a $157 fine for the first offense.

“Distracted driving is a serious issue, but one that can be easily solved simply by putting the phone down,” said Chief Pat Walsh. “That text, phone call, email, or social media post can wait.”

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Menifee Police Department will continuously enforce distracted driving and will hold additional distracted driving operations throughout the year.
