A 75-year-old Menifee resident succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Wednesday evening at about 7:17 p.m. at the intersection of Rockport Road and Laguna Vista Drive. The accident was observed by a Menifee police officer, who notified dispatch and immediately began assessing the pedestrian’s injuries.
According to the Menifee Police Department, the initial investigation determined a vehicle had stopped at the stop sign of westbound Rockport Road and Laguna Vista Drive. Upon traveling west through the intersection to the opposing side, the vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was traveling north in the crosswalk, knocking him to the ground.
The pedestrian sustained severe head trauma and was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver, identified by police as a 59-year-old resident of Menifee, remained at the scene and cooperated throughout the investigation. The intersection remained closed for several hours.
The primary cause of the collision is still under investigation. There is no suspected alcohol or drugs involved at this time. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Sgt.
