On July 7, a 15-year-old Menifee resident sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a vehicle in the 30000 block of Newport Road. He was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The collision was reported at approximately 1:45 a.m. The preliminary investigation indicated the driver of a Honda traveling east on Newport Road in the number one traffic lane and the pedestrian walking westbound within the same lane. As a result, the Honda struck the pedestrian, throwing him into the eastbound lanes of traffic.
The release said the driver stopped at the scene, cooperated with law enforcement, and was not injured in the crash. Speed, intoxication nor distracted driving appeared to be a factor in the collision.
The primary cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Menifee Police Department Traffic Division. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Menifee Police Department at 951-723-1500.
