The Menifee Union School District announced the retirement of Facilities Director James (Jim) Sellers, effective November 13, concluding a career spanning 36 years.
A lifelong resident of Menifee, Sellers was instrumental in shaping the physical landscape of the district, guiding its infrastructure through periods of unprecedented growth.
Sellers began his tenure with the district when Menifee was a small town with just one elementary and one middle school. “Initially, it was just a job—close to home with health benefits,” Sellers said. “I had just started a family. It was simple then. I even attended Menifee Elementary myself as a child.”
More than four decades, Sellers has witnessed the dramatic transformation of the community, noting the significant growth surges the district and city have navigated. His dedication was personal: “The students in this community were also my children’s peers,” Sellers said. “I coached many of them in youth sports. The community has been a part of my family growing up.”
Sellers progressed from maintenance worker I, through foreman and supervisor, before taking on greatest challenge in of director of Facilities in 2018.
“For 36 years, Jim did not simply maintain our schools; he helped build the foundation of our entire district,” Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Root said. “His leadership, especially in developing our long-term facilities master plan, ensures that every student and staff member has the optimal environment they need to succeed for years to come. We are grateful for his vision and dedication.”
Sellers said the district will always be a part of his life story. In retirement, Sellers plans to relax and dedicate time to travel, hobbies, and spending time with family and friends.
