A subject experiencing a mental health crisis led to a deputy-involved shooting outside of a residence in Moreno Valley.
On August 7 at 4:10 p.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 11000 block of Villa Hermosa regarding a subject experiencing a mental health episode. With the assistance of a clinical therapist from the Community Behavioral Assessment Team, deputies contacted the reporting party outside of the residence. While speaking with the reporting party, the subject allegedly exited the residence, pointed a firearm at deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect was struck by gunfire, and deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. The suspect was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
No deputies were injured during this incident.
The deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave according to department policy, and their names were not released.
