A hazardous materials incident involving mercury was contained Saturday evening in the City of Wildomar after firefighters investigated reports of mercury at multiple locations, including Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, and Menifee.
Firefighters responded to a hazardous materials incident at approximately 11:24 p.m. in the 24000 block of Magnolia Road in the City of Wildomar. The Riverside County Hazardous Materials Team and county environmental health officials assisted firefighters with the response.
Crews assessed additional reported locations, including the 500 block of Main Street in Lake Elsinore, the 2300 block of Brook Drive in Canyon, the 2800 block of Bradley Road, and the 36000 block of Inland Valley Drive in Wildomar.
At approximately 6:20 p.m., officials confirmed those locations did not pose a threat and determined the hazard was limited to the Magnolia Road location.
The substance involved has been identified as mercury, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported and that there are no ongoing threats to the surrounding communities.
