The Mermaids of Canyon Lake held its member meeting on Tuesday, recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raising funds for Riverside County Alternatives to Domestic Violence.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members were asked to wear pink to the meeting. A breast cancer awareness quilt was presented to breast cancer survivor Linda Johnson, who won the quilt in a free drawing the club held for Canyon Lake women who have or had breast cancer. More than 20 women entered the drawing.
In keeping with its mission to raise money for its charitable causes, members were asked to donate an Amazon or other gift card. More than 25 gift cards were collected for Riverside County Alternatives to Domestic Violence.
The guest speaker was a representative from Huey’s Heroes, a reading program designed to help readers of all ages improve their reading skills while sharing those skills with animals in a shelter.
Nicole Taylor was welcomed as the club’s new membership chair. Nicole Verlinich was welcomed as the new webmaster.
The Mermaids of Canyon Lake Club promotes volunteerism, sisterhood, and community. The club hosts several events throughout the year to raise money for its charitable causes. Canyon Lake women are invited to attend the next club meeting on Monday, January 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center.
