Mermaids of Canyon Lake ‘let the good times roll’ at Red Heart Casino Night fundraiser

The Mermaids of Canyon Lake Club kicked off its 2023 fundraising events with a Red Heart Casino Night on February 18 at the Canyon Lake Senior Center.

Forty club members and guests enjoyed Vegas-style games, food, drinks, and a silent auction. Attendees “let the good times roll” playing craps, roulette, blackjack, and Texas Holdem.

The event raised $2,400 for charities supported by the club.

Jenny Lynn Vogel was the overall winner of the night. She was presented with a $200 Amazon gift card.

Aprile McKinnon served as MC for the evening and also provided the music.

Volunteer dealers included Justin Lewis, Dale Welty, and Karly Klittich at the blackjack tables, Jeff Taylor and Mike Hall at the Texas hold’em table, Dana Buckley at the roulette table, and Jim Doherty at the craps table.

Fifteen baskets filled with items donated by local businesses were auctioned. Contributing businesses include Patriotic Arms, Sports Stop, Studio K Tanning, Just for Paws Grooming, California Styles Salon, Southpaw Ceramics, PZA, Foxy Faces, Manhattan Beauty Project, Rodeo Smoke Shop, and the Canyon Lake Market.

The event was chaired by Nichole Taylor and co-chaired by Nicole Verlinich with the help of committee members Kim Pauley, Karen Doherty, Lyne Hall, Fran Tibbet, Suzie Tiech, Char Woodbridge, Gabi Roberson, Aprile McKinnon, Natassia Wright, Jeanne Gulley

The club’s next event will be a Wig Wednesday party for members only on Wednesday, March 22, at 4 p.m. This event will be followed by the club’s 2nd Annual Derby Day fundraiser.

The Mermaids of Canyon Lake is a nonprofit women’s club that promotes volunteerism, sisterhood, and community. The club hosts several events throughout the year to raise money for its charitable causes. Annual club membership is $25. For more information, visit www.mermaidsofcanyonlake.org.
