
Fourteen anglers on seven boats participated in the Open Tournament held by the Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club on August 22 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
With a total fish weight of 22.40 lbs., the team of Joe Merrill and Travis Smith came in first place. The team of Kevin Hugo and Johnathan Kemble took second place with a total fish weight of 20.26 lbs. The father-son team of Shannon and Casey Perkins reeled in third place with a total fish weight of 18.70 lbs.
Johnathan Kemble earned the “Big Fish” title with a bass weighing 7.40 lbs.
The tournament was open to anyone who wanted to participate. Each team was limited to five fish. All fish are released back into the lake after being weighed.
Canyon Lakers who like to fish and want to improve their skills in a friendly, competitive environment are invited to join the Bassmasters Club. Monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday at 7 p.m. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the meeting location has been moved from the Magnolia Room at the country club to the Holiday Harbor parking lot until further notice.
