After more than two decades as residents of Canyon Lake, Valerie and Travis Montgomery are preparing to bid the community farewell as they plan to relocate to Jacksonville, Florida, where their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren reside.
The Montgomerys purchased a weekend home in Canyon Lake in 1999, before making the community their full-time residence in 2004, when they relocated from Long Beach. Since then, they have played a role in shaping and supporting life in the Canyon Lake community.
Over the years, the Montgomerys were deeply involved in the community. Travis served on the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (POA) Board of Directors from 2006 to 2007, holding positions as both president and treasurer.
A member of the Men’s Golf Club since 1999, Travis served on the board in several positions, including president in 2018. He has been a member of the Canyon Lake Association of Past Presidents since 2019.
Travis also served as president of the Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild for two years, during which the idea for the new Holiday Harbor amphitheater was conceived, and funds toward the project were committed to the POA.
Travis was also active in the Travel Club, serving on its board for five years, including two years as president. In 2019, he returned to the board as treasurer, where he uncovered a $24,000 embezzlement by a past board member.
In 2019, Travis organized quarterly blood drives in Canyon Lake, which continue to be held quarterly to this day.
Valerie has been a member of the Women’s Golf Club for more than 20 years, serving in several positions on the board, including president in 2013. She chaired the Canyon Lake Involved Past Presidents in 2018.
Valerie found her passion when she served on the Green Committee from 2006 to 2025. She chaired the committee for 10 years, leading the committee to many accomplishments.
Valerie has organized the volunteers for the annual Kids Golf Camp for the past several years.
In May 2024, the Canyon Lake POA honored Valerie as Member of the Month.
The Montgomerys are members of Canyon Lake Community Church, where Travis has served on the National Prayer Breakfast Committee for several years.
The Mongomery’s years of service, leadership, and dedication have left a lasting mark on the community they’ve called home for more than 20 years.
