A motorcyclist was fatally injured on Sunday after hitting a guardrail and plunging down an embankment along the eastbound 74 in the unincorporated area west of Lake Elsinore.

Cal Fire responded to the scene and located a motorcycle approximately 65 feet over the side of the roadway, officials said.

Mark Gray, 45, of Huntington Beach was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. Gray’s motorcycle and helmet were retrieved from the embankment.

The accident prompted a partial closure of the highway.
