The Riverside County Board of Supervisors recently approved the closure of six hazardous hiking areas throughout the region, effective May 1.
Until further notice, the closures will remain in effect in Eagle Canyon and Tin Mine (east of Corona), Steel Peak (north of Lake Elsinore), Bautista Canyon (southeast of Hemet), and North Mountain and Indian Canyon (south of Banning, north of San Jacinto). Ramona Bowl (south of Hemet) will be open daily from sunrise to 12 p.m.
The closures are being implemented to protect the public and to reduce the likelihood of wildfire incidents that could threaten surrounding communities.
Public roadway travel is permitted, provided travel is confined to those surfaces within hazardous fire areas.
Future closures may be implemented based on weather conditions, fuel moisture, and increased fire threats. Maps for each of the affected areas can be found at https://tinyurl.com/hikingclosures.
