Murrieta Fire Chief David Lantzer on Wednesday announced that he will be retiring on October 24.
“I would like you all to know what a pleasure it has been to serve you as deputy fire chief and fire chief for the past six years,” Lantzer said. “I announce now as it’s very important that we have a smooth transition to minimize disruption to the multiple projects and ongoing processes we have in place at Murrieta Fire & Rescue.”
Lantzer said it is “extremely gratifying” looking back on all that was accomplished and the groundwork laid for continuous quality improvement in the future. “The quality of the people at Murrieta Fire & Rescue, City Hall, and all the city departments is as high as any I’ve had the pleasure to work with,” he said.”
Lantzer credits his success to his wife, Juana. “She is truly one of God’s few angels on this earth,” he said. “I have never met someone so caring of others and I’ve strived to be more like her since we met (with mixed success). When she feels pain, I feel pain; when she’s sad, I’m sad; when she’s happy, my heart is filled with joy. All my success is due to her.”
