The Murrieta Fire District Board of Directors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 7, at 4 p.m. to consider the 2026-27 District Fire Suppression Assessment and Standby or Availability Charge. The hearing will take place in the City Council Chamber at Murrieta City Hall.
The annual assessment, which was approved by Murrieta voters in 1981 with 79% voter approval, provides supplemental funding for fire suppression operations and related emergency services within the Murrieta Fire District. The assessment is ongoing and is collected through property tax bills.
For residential properties, the standby or availability charge is capped at $40 per benefit unit. Commercial and industrial properties are assessed based on Insurance Services Office (ISO) fire flow guidelines, with assessments ranging up to 12 benefit units depending on the property’s fire protection needs.
The preliminary estimated value of the assessment is $1,624,574.40.
Residents may submit written comments before the hearing or provide testimony during the meeting. Written comments can be sent to the Murrieta city clerk by mail or email. Written comments may also be submitted at the public hearing.
Those wishing to challenge any action taken on the assessment in court generally must have raised their concerns during the public hearing or in written comments submitted beforehand.
