Murrieta Fire & Rescue to host 77th Annual Firefighters BBQ

Mark your calendar for one of Riverside County’s longest-running events, the Murrieta Firefighters BBQ hosted by Murrieta Fire & Rescue.

This sizzling event will be held on Saturday, April 13, from 12 to 6 p.m. at Town Square Park. Admission is free and open to the public

In celebration of Murrieta Fire & Rescue’s 77th anniversary, this year’s event will be bigger than ever, featuring a delicious tri-tip lunch, live music, kid-friendly rides, and various activities. In addition to the traditional barbeque fare, this year’s event will feature additional food options and general vendors.

Cheer on fire explorers from throughout Southern California in the annual Fire Explorers “Muster” Competition, unwind with a refreshing beverage in the beer and wine garden, shop for unique crafts at the vendor market, test your skills in the corn hole tournament, and enjoy family-friendly activities.

Lunch tickets can be purchased at Town Square Park and are $15 for a smoked Tri-Tip lunch plate, including potato salad, baked beans, a roll, and a non-alcoholic beverage. Kid meals are $5 each and include a grilled hotdog, chips, and drink.

The Murrieta Firefighters BBQ is a way for the community to show their support for the dedicated public safety personnel serving at MFR and for MFR to show its appreciation for the community it has served for the past 77 years.

Murrieta Fire & Rescue’s 77th anniversary is on April 16. It was on that day in 1947 that the citizens of Murrieta voted to form the Murrieta Fire Protection District. With $1,400 donated by the community, the Fire District purchased a 1941 International 4×4 crash truck. At the toll of a bell atop the Methodist Church, the 10 Fire District volunteers responded to six calls that first year.

In 1987, Murrieta Fire & Rescue changed from an all-volunteer fire district to a combined career and volunteer-staffed Fire District. In July 1990, Murrieta Fire & Rescue was the first fire department in Riverside County to implement the Emergency Medical Technician – Defibrillator (EMT-D). The department now employs 62 sworn personnel and 11 administrative staff. In August of 2018, MFR became the first accredited fire agency in Riverside County and the 18th in the state.
