A Murrieta man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a collision in the City of Perris that left a motorcyclist in critical condition.
On August 5 at 2:22 p.m., deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to the 500 block of West 4th Street regarding the report of a traffic collision involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival, deputies located the motorcyclist in the roadway with significant injuries. The rider was transported to a local hospital, where they remain in critical but stable condition.
The driver, later identified as 61-year-old Mauricio Cruz Cortez of Murrieta, remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.
During the investigation, deputies determined that Cortez was driving under the influence. He was taken into custody without incident and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury.
A temporary road closure of the westbound lanes of West 4th Street was required to process the scene and collect evidence.
