The Murrieta Police Department welcomed the newest member of its K-9 Unit, K-9 Fender, a four-year-old German Shepherd who will serve alongside his handler, Officer Kelis.
Fender and Officer Kelis recently completed a 240-hour of basic handler training course and officially certified as a patrol K-9 on August 29.
The team is now entering an internal training program, working closely with seasoned handlers over the next several weeks. This phase is designed to build on their training by addressing any questions that may not have come up during the basics academy, as well as any department-specific protocols and procedures.
