Murrieta Police Department investigating fatal single-vehicle accident

The Murrieta Police Department is investigating a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred today around 2:12 a.m. on Whitewood Road, just north of Calle De Tres Amigos.

The vehicle had crashed into a tree and was fully engulfed in flames when officers arrived on the scene. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle succumbed to their injuries and was not transported, according to the Menifee Police Department. The Riverside County Coroner responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling northbound on Whitewood just north of Calle De Tres Amigos when, for unknown reasons, it veered off the roadway, struck the curb, and collided with a tree, the department said.

The collision is still under investigation to determine the cause and if impairment was a factor. Vehicle speed at the time of the collision has not been determined. It is not believed any other vehicles were involved.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage related to this traffic collision and who has not been contacted by a Murrieta Police officer or investigator is encouraged to contact Murrieta Police Traffic Investigator Stickelman at 951-461-6306 or [email protected], or Traffic Bureau Sergeant Steve Whiddon at 951-461-6323 or [email protected].
