K9 Lew of the Murrieta Police Department has officially retired and is set to live out his days lounging by the pool with Corporal Bock and his family.

Lew was instrumental in the apprehension of dozens of criminals during his tenure and was a crowd favorite at community events.

As a member of the Southwest Cities SWAT Team, Lew was deployed in the cities of Murrieta, Hemet, and Menifee on numerous SWAT missions over the last few years.

At the annual Murrieta Police Department K9 Trials this year, Lew placed third overall out of approximately 50 teams from across Southern California.

Most recently, Lew was honored by the Law Enforcement Appreciation Committee for outstanding K9 deployment where he assisted in apprehending several dangerous felons who committed a string of robberies in San Diego County, led officers on an extended pursuit, and fired at officers as well as another agency’s police K9, injuring that K9.

“We will certainly miss K9 Lew around the station but are happy to announce his retirement,” the department said. “Who knows, maybe we’ll get some updates of Lew living the pampered life from Corporal Bock.”
