A 60-year-old Murrieta woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on Wednesday as she was walking in the roadway on Murrieta Hot Springs Road at Calle Del Lago.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m. and located the female, identified as Debbie Aponte, in the roadway with significant injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, Aponte was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, fully cooperative with authorities. The Murrieta Police Department confirmed the driver showed no signs of impairment.
According to the Murrieta Police Department, preliminary investigations suggest that Aponte was either walking in the roadway or attempting to cross it when she was struck.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has additional information to come forward.
