Longtime Canyon Lake resident Nancy Carroll announced her plans to leave Canyon Lake and relocate to Knoxville, Tennessee, at the beginning of June.
Carroll has contributed countless hours to the Canyon Lake community, including serving 27 years as a member of the Canyon Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee. She served 25 of those years as the president of the committee.
For three decades, Carroll has been part of the team that has prepared the city in the event of a disaster. The retired nurse has coordinated emergency services for Canyon Lake during floods and other catastrophes, served as a volunteer at first aid booths during various city and POA events, and held free hands-on CPR classed for Canyon Lake residents.
A resident since 1989, Carroll has received numerous recognitions and certificates for her dedicated volunteer work. Her first recognition was a key to the city, which is bestowed by the City of Canyon Lake upon esteemed residents.
In 2011, Carroll was named “Volunteer of the Year.” In 2016, she was honored by eight former Canyon Lake mayors and presented with a plaque and flowers. In 2017, Carroll, along with resident Al Van Beenen, was chosen by the Fiesta Day Committee to serve as the grand marshal of Canyon Lake’s Fiesta Day Parade.
Carroll is a former member of the Canyon Lake Lioness Club, the Woman’s Club, the 9ers Golf Club, and the Choraleers.
Carroll and her husband Jay, who passed away in 2014, were married for 54 years and raised three children and four foster children. The Carrolls have always made it a priority to give back to the communities they lived in.
Carroll is looking forward to making new memories in Tennessee with her children and grandchildren; however, she said it will be very difficult for her to leave Canyon Lake. Fighting back tears, Carroll said, “It’s going to be very hard for me to leave Canyon Lake, I have so many wonderful friends here. I am very proud to be a member of the Canyon Lake community and be able to say that I’ve lived in Canyon Lake for all these years.”
The community is invited to bid Carroll a farewell on Friday, May 21, at 3 p.m. at Sierra Park. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs and drinks.
