The Canyon Lake POA will soon be installing solar panels on steel carport structures at the country club over the driving range tee box, lodge parking lot, and Operations yard. In addition to providing ample shaded parking options, the solar panels will save the POA nearly $3 million over a 25-year period.
The cost to construct this system is more than $2 million. The contractor will bear 100 of the construction and engineering costs of this system, the POA said. In exchange, the POA will purchase electricity from the PPA provider at fixed costs that are much less than the current Southern California Edison rates, for 25 years.
The current blended SCE rates are $0.30 per kWh. In the first year, the POA will be purchasing clean energy produced onsite for $0.149 per kilowatt-hour. In 25 years, the PPA rates will cap at $0.189 per kWh.
