Canyon Lake residents interested in serving on the Canyon Lake City Council can begin the process of running for office as the candidate nomination period is officially open for the November 3 General Municipal Election.
Two city council seats will be on the ballot. The positions are four-year terms.
Residents who wish to run for office must file nomination papers during the official filing period, which expires on Friday, August 7, at 12 p.m.
To run for city office, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age or older, and a resident and registered voter of the City of Canyon Lake at the time nomination papers are issued.
Prospective candidates are required to schedule an appointment to receive nomination papers by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at 951-244-2955.
The city clerk serves as the city’s elections officer, overseeing the issuance and acceptance of nomination papers while acting as the official filing officer for campaign statements. Election administration is coordinated through Riverside County. The city consolidates its election activities with Riverside County, which handles voter registration, prepares ballot materials, operates vote centers, and performs other key election functions.
City Hall is open Monday through Friday; however, city staff will be available on Friday, August 7, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. to accommodate candidates on the final day of the filing period.
