Passenger killed in head-on collision in Murrieta

A passenger was killed on Wednesday in a head-on collision in the City of Murrieta.

On May 15 at around 11:47 p.m., Murrieta Fire & Rescue and Murrieta Police officers responded to a report of two vehicles colliding on Hancock Avenue south of Parkcrest Drive. Three adults were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for their injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that one of the vehicles crossed over into oncoming traffic, causing a head-on collision. Officers observed signs of impairment with the driver of the vehicle that veered into oncoming traffic, according to the Murrieta Police Department. The driver was arrested and booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center on felony charges.

The driver of the other vehicle required emergency surgery. He is expected to recover. His female adult passenger succumbed to her injuries.
