Starting on Monday, August 16, Pastor Peter Van Dyke will be conducting free GriefShare classes in which he reaches out to help those who have lost a loved one. This loss can be as close as a few months away or years since the actual loss.

Classes are held on thirteen consecutive Mondays at 10 a.m. in Building A at Canyon Lake Community Church. A duplicate class is held at 6:30 p.m. to allow all participants flexibility in scheduling each week.

Participants need not be a member of Canyon Lake Community Church to attendee GriefShare. Meetings are open to everyone who has a need. Each week is “self-contained” so one does not have to attend in sequence.

Each week, the GriefShare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects. After viewing the video, group members spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and how it can be lived out in their lives. During the week, participants have the opportunity to use a personal workbook for further study of the grieving process and to help sort out their emotions through journaling.

Several topics will be addressed in the classes, such as why one’s grief experience is harder than one may have imagined. Helpful goals to set on one’s journey of grief, the issue of dealing with those who try to rush one through one’s grief, and why the path to healing from grief isn’t always smooth will also be discussed. How to get things done when one does not have the energy is always a popular topic.

For additional information, contact Pastor Pete at 951-244-1877, ext. 204.
