An adult male is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle this morning, around 5 a.m., at the intersection of Menifee Road and Newport Road.
The victim was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment, where he is currently listed in stable but critical condition.
According to the Menifee Police Department, the driver, identified as Omar Sangines of Winchester, told officers he had been driving his Kia sedan when he struck the male. Sangines was the sole occupant of the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.
The preliminary investigation conducted by the Menifee Police Department Traffic Unit indicates that Sangines drove through a green light at a high rate of speed and struck the victim in the crosswalk at Newport Road.
At this time, drugs are believed to be a factor in the collision; however, the exact cause remains under investigation. Sangines was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
