Phase 5 of the Canyon Lake POA’s multi-million dollar road project is set to begin on Monday, April 11. The roads in Phase 5 include Boating Way, Yellow Gold Drive, Fawn Lake Place, the southwest section of Cove view Drive, Nautical Court, and Lands End Place.
The northwest section of Canyon Club Drive will also be part of this phase. Access to the Canyon Lake Villas from Canyon Club Drive will be limited. Residents of the condos are advised to use the Lighthouse Drive entrance for access through April 22.
Streets being reconstructed will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Any vehicles parked in the street on designated asphalt reconstruction days between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. will be towed without further notice at the vehicle owner’s expense.
The POA’s $5.6 million rehabilitation project includes replacing approximately 1.3 million square feet of asphalt on over 60 segments of streets in 2022. It is expected to continue in 2023 with approximately $5 million worth of repairs, and $2 to $3 million the following years, for several years. The POA anticipates the 2022 phase of the project to be completed by June 3.
The Canyon Lake POA owns and maintains 37 miles of private roads. The last major road paving project was completed in 2012/13 and resulted in streets that failed long before their expected design life. This led to years of litigation against the contractor, suppliers, and engineers.
The contractor, Hardy and Harper, Inc., and the project engineer, Albert A. Webb Associates, have settled for $5.5 million, according to the POA. Those funds are in the POA’s Road Reserve Fund. The POA said it feels optimistic about recovering additional funds against the one remaining asphalt supplier.
